Lena-Dunham

HBO announced today that it has ordered the new comedy Girls, created by and starring Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture). The series, which will begin shooting this spring in New York, provides a comic look at the “assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s,” according to HBO.

Dunham wrote and directed the pilot of the series, which she executive produces along with Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner. “Lena Dunham quickly established herself as an important young talent with her first feature film,” said HBO Entertainment President Sue Naegle in a statement.  “We are thrilled to team up with her and fellow executive producers Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner for this exciting project.”

The cast includes Jemima Kirke (Tiny Furniture), Allison Williams (American Dreams), Adam Driver (HBO’s “You Don’t Know Jack”) and Zosia Mamet (Mad Men).

Tiny Furniture was directed and written by Dunham, who also stars in the film.  It has received three Independent Spirit Award nominations for Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
