Michelle Trachtenberg and Josh Schwartz developing new drama for The CW

Trachtenberg-Schwartz

The crazy bitch is back. Georgina Sparks may have left Gossip Girl and Dan Humphrey with baby Milo in tow, but Michelle Trachtenberg won’t be leaving the CW for long. Variety is reporting that the network has issued a script deal for an untitled drama starring Trachtenberg with Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as executive producers. Trachtenberg will play a young criminology student with a dark past and will also earn a producing credit. What About Brian‘s Stuart Zicherman is also on board as writer/executive producer.

Trachtenberg is no stranger to the CW, becoming a regular on Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 2000-2003, back when the network was still The WB (remember those frog promos?), and has had a recurring role on Gossip Girl over its four seasons, managing to pop up whenever things start to get boring normal. Josh Schwartz is certainly fond of his former actors: After a guest appearance on Chuck, former O.C. star Rachel Bilson recently signed on to star in Schwartz’s new project Ghost Angels, a NBC romantic comedy about an Los Angeles woman who can see dead people. (The well of pretty female crime solvers with a weird connection to dead people has yet to run dry?)

What do you think, PopWatchers? Does Josh Schwartz have another O.C./Chuck/Gossip Girl on his hands? Is Michelle Trachtenberg enough to get you excited about this project? Which former Schwartz star (cough Adam Brody cough) deserves his or her own series?
