MARX AND RECREATION Edgar Ramirez plays the titular radical in Carlos
Jean-Claude Moireau

Olivier Assayas’ three-part drama about Carlos the Jackal, the Venezuelan-born radical-Marxist terrorist of the ’70s and ’80s, is a rivetingly journalistic account of a scoundrel’s rise and fall. Carlos (the superb Édgar Ramírez) is like Che Guevara reborn as a bomb-tossing hijacker. He’s a figure of fascination, yet Carlos doesn’t go deeper, it just gets longer. B+
