Loosely based on the 1990 Luc Besson classic La Femme Nikita (which also inspired a 1993 Bridget Fonda remake and USA’s Peta Wilson-led TV series), this version of Nikita begins with the titular assassin, played by Mission: Impossible III‘s Maggie Q, attempting to exact revenge on those who trained her to kill. She’ll tangle with ominous ”Division” agents played by ER‘s Shane West and The OC’s Melinda Clarke, who are in the process of molding a new killer (Lyndsy Fonseca). ”We’re following Nikita in a chapter of her life you’ve never seen before,” says exec producer Craig Silverstein (Bones). ”I sorta looked at it as a mini-version of a James Bond or Batman franchise, which have been successfully rebooted many times.” Luckily, producers found an actress who was more than prepared for the action-heavy role. ”I’m always willing to punch or kick someone’s ass,” says Q. ”That’s always on the menu for me.” DEBUTED SEPT. 9
