Oprah Winfrey, Paul McCartney to get Kennedy Center honors

Posted on

Oprah Winfrey and Paul McCartney will pick up awards during this fall’s Kennedy Center Honors, an event that recognizes performers who contribute to American culture. “I love surprising people, I don’t like being surprised,” Winfrey told the Associated Press. “Releasing any kind of control over a show and allowing myself to sit there and be surprised is not going to be easy, but I’m willing to do that.” Other honorees include choreographer Bill T. Jones, country singer Merle Haggard, and Broadway composer Jerry Herman. The 33rd annual gala will take place on Dec. 5, and will air on CBS Dec. 28.
