The biggest story to come out of this year’s Comic-Con was the Avengers panel, which featured the full cast of the superhero mega-movie waving to their adoring public. The movie itself is still two years away, and the script hasn’t even been written yet, but logo fetishists and Nick Fury completists will adore the Avengers teaser that played at Comic-Con.
It’s probably madness to try to parse anything from this prenatal preview, but notice how Samuel L. Jackson specifically says, “The foes no single superhero could withstand.” Plural! This seems to indicate at least a few supervillains in the movie. Thor’s archnemesis Loki has long been rumored as the film’s Big Bad — I wonder who else will make the cut? (As much as I love the Iron Man movies, neither of them really left us with a memorable baddie.) The Avengers actually have a pretty incredible rogues’ gallery — I’m crossing my fingers for a time-jumping sequel featuring Kang, Immortus, Rama-Tut, and the Scarlet Centurion — but it’ll be intriguing to see just how many superpowered people Joss Whedon can keep onscreen at once.
What do you think of the clip, PopWatchers? Not to be a detail-oriented fanboy, but is anyone else really excited that they seem dead-set on calling it The Avengers, instead of just Avengers? And unless I’m crazy, is that the distant cry of the Evil Inception Foghorn at the 00:28 mark?
