Venice Film Festival boasts 79 world premieres

Posted on

The Associated Press reports that 79 films have scheduled their world premieres to debut at the Venice Film Festival. Twenty-two titles will compete for the festival’s Golden Lion award, among them Somewhere — directed by Sofia Coppola — and Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky’s ballet thriller. This year’s festival also boasts another unique trait: The average age of the directors competing is 47, much younger than typically seen at Venice. Quentin Tarantino will head the jury this year.
