EW and Syfy's Comic-Con Celebration: Hollywood partying in San Diego

Posted on

You would have sworn you were in Hollywood. For the fourth year in a row, Entertainment Weekly and Syfy threw their Comic-Con Celebration party. Under a particularly striking full moon at San Diego’s Hotel Solamar, more than 500 stars and industry members (including Michael Cera, Zachary Levi, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julie Benz, Kevin Williamson, Eli Roth, Felicia Day, Ron Perlman, Anna Kendrick, Chris Hemsworth, and Paul Wesley) gathered to drink, mingle, and even dance — yes, that was The Avengers director Joss Whedon boogieing with the cast of Glee. Naturally, many conversations revolved around Comic-Con itself and the convention’s penchant for memorable fan costumes. “There was a dude dressed up like a Super Sperm!” recalled The Event‘s Blair Underwood. “I cannot and should not be more descriptive than that.” However, NCIS star Pauley Perrette felt right at home on the Comic-Con floor. “I saw a million people dressed as my character,” said Perrette. “A million little Abby’s!”

Other celebs gladly discussed their current geeky obsessions. “I just finished The Last Man series [of graphic novels], which I loved,” said Community‘s Joel McHale. “And I’m playing Splinter Cell: Conviction and Red Dead Redemption. Basically, I like video games with lots of weapons in them!” And Twilight‘s Kellan Lutz was spotted in the party’s Confections room, which featured a cornucopia of candy treats that I doubt is a normal part of the Calvin Klein underwear model’s diet. But, hey, it’s Comic-Con — anything goes. (Additional reporting by Jace Brittain)
