Drake's 'Thank Me Later' lives up to hype, expecting first week sales around 460,000 copies

Image Credit: George Pimentel/WireImage.comYeah, it’s called Thank Me Later. But thousands of Drake‘s fans are appreciating him now.  462,989 fans, to be exact. That’s how many albums Hits Daily Double is projecting the 23-year-old rap stud’s debut sold in its first week out. It’s the third-highest debut of the year, behind Sade’s Soldier of Love (502,000 albums) and Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now (481,000 copies). Many hoped he’d crack a million copies, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since his Young Money label head Lil Wayne did it with his Tha Carter III in 2008. Pundits and critics alike speculated that he’d sell about half of that.

Drake will debut at No. 1 on Billboard‘s 200 albums chart later today. We’ll have the rest of the chart’s news and official numbers when they arrive. Knowing that he’d be the top dog on the chart, last night Drake tweeted, “Thank you for the support…thank you for the memories…thank me later.”

Did you buy Thank Me Later? What did you think of it? Is it as good as you hoped? Let us know.
