Variety describes the Endemol USA offering thusly: “Gamer follows competitors as they answer questions while sitting in various compromising positions like a catapult. If they get one wrong, however, the player exits the show via one of several terrifying ejection devices — such as being shot out of a cannon or speeding down a zipline.” Stupid? Yes. But something I could, arguably, see myself watching in a crappy hotel room that doesn’t get cable. If you’re gonna go big (and crazy), go big (and crazy). Wipeout executive producer Matt Kunitz will shoot a pilot for ABC this August called 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show.
If you’re going to humiliate yourself on national TV, doing it by cannon or catapult is at least an interesting story to tell your friends. I mean, who actually gets shot out of a cannon or a catapult? That’s as rare as, say, me someone slipping on a banana peel (twice).
Would you tune in for this? Any suggestions for the other 98 ways someone could exit this game show?
