ABC gave fans (and non-fans) a chance to relive the magic of the Lost pilot last night but few took advantage of the opportunity: the two-hour episode – which provided valuable pop-ups featuring information about the show’s mythology – only averaged 2.55 million viewers, according to preliminary ratings. The first hour came in third place (2.46 million) behind Major League Baseball on Fox and a repeat of CSI on CBS and but dropped to No. 4 at 9 p.m. (2.64 million) behind more baseball, the eye’s 48 Hours Mystery and a rerun of Law & Order on NBC. ABC’s rerun of the cult hit Castle (3.1 million) fared better at 10 p.m.
When the heavily-promoted pilot first debuted on ABC on Sept. 22, 2004, it attracted 18.6 million viewers. Last night’s rerun didn’t get much in the way of hype since most of the promotional push has gone into tonight’s finale.
Overall, ABC finished Saturday in fourth place among viewers (2.75 million) behind CBS (5.07 million), Fox (4.54 million) and NBC (3.55 million).
