Image Credit: Todd Williamson/WireImage.comTimothy Olyphant thought the critical success of his FX show Justified might open more big-screen doors, but he can also thank the show’s hiatus before season 2 begins production. Because District 9′s Sharlto Copley has a scheduling conflict with promoting The A-Team, Olyphant has been tapped to replace him in I Am Number Four, Variety reports. He’ll now star as the adult guardian of a group of aliens who escaped their doomed planet and hide out on Earth, pretending to be human teenagers. The title character, Number Four (Beastly‘s Alex Pettyfer) discovers he’s wanted by the rival species that destroyed their home planet. This is the D.J. Caruso film Michael Bay is producing from a script by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s Marti Noxon. We already had high hopes for both mega-action and teenage angst. With Olyphant, who frankly, can seem otherwordly with that long torso and lanky walk, we’re adding some dry-wit dialogue to our list of growing demands. Also, a cowboy hat (to blend in!). And a gun.
