How much Dr. Drew is too much?

Image Credit: Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic.comFor fans of train-wreck reality television, Dr. Drew Pinsky is already pretty darn near inescapable, between VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew, Celebrity Rehab Presents Sober House, and his MTV series Sex … With Mom and Dad. Now comes the news that Pinsky has formed his own production company, Dr. Drew Productions, to develop more unscripted series featuring the celebrity doctor. First up: a pilot for a new series, Estranged With Dr. Drew, which will focus on couples struggling to decide whether to stay together.

All of which begs the question: How much Dr. Drew do viewers want or need? More to the point, how much televised misery and dysfunction is too much? Dr. Drew is clearly in the business of trying to help people with often very deep personal problems, but, by turning those problems into other people’s entertainment and encouraging a culture of voyeurism and oversharing, is he ultimately doing more harm than good?

What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you addicted to addiction shows like Celebrity Rehab and Sex Rehab? Or are you turned off by the sense of exploitation? How much Dr. Drew is too much for you?
