The sardonic cater-waiter comedy is minus one of its first-season stand-outs, though: Jane Lynch. As much as I miss her character, the show still works just fine: Megan Mullally has stepped in as Lydia, and oversharing lame-o stage mother. Party Down captures that weird environment between workplace Stockholm Syndrome and straight-up coworker hate-lust — and turns it into a goofy ensemble comedy. While the characters are often bitter, misguided, and even mean-spirited, the show itself never is.
