Peter Hedges set to direct, write, and produce 'The Heights'

The book was just released last month, and already Focus Features has secured the film rights to Peter Hedges’ The Heights, according to Variety.

The author of both the novel and screenplay of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (and also the man behind Dan in Real Life and Pieces of April), Hedges is set to write, direct, and produce The Heights. The novel follows a married couple in Brooklyn whose marriage is tested in an “unthinkable yet delicious way,” according to Hedges. Hint: another woman enters the picture.

There are a lot of great elements from the book that would translate well to the big screen. The Brooklyn neighborhood, in all its leafy, tree-lined streets glory, should come alive as a character. I can see real-life Brooklynites Maggie Gyllenhaal or Michelle Williams easily portraying wife Kate. For husband Tim, someone like my personal favorite, Paul Rudd, might be perfect.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Who should star in The Heights?
