”Fantastic Mr. Fox,” ”Alvin and the Chipmuinks: The Squeakquel,” and more quality entertainment that won’t hurt your wallet

A trip to the multiplex with the kids can be pricey — and potentially exhausting — so why not opt for these new DVDs (via Amazon and Buy.com) that the whole family can enjoy over and over again from the comfort of home?

Chip Chip Hooray!
The kids will be chattering in perfect chipmunkese after a double feature of Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (PG, $16.99) and Alvin and the Chipmunks (PG, $11.49). Then unveil Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Chipettes (Not Rated, $9.49) to feed their burgeoning singing-rodent fix.

Marx Attacks
Groucho and his frères’ timeless antics are required viewing for any comedy connoisseur, and the TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection (Not Rated, $15.99), featuring A Day at the Races, Room Service, A Night in Casablanca, and At the Circus, offers the most bang for your buck.

Old School
In the CGI age, it’s rare to find new titles in the classic hand-drawn or stop-motion animation styles. Disney’s hand-drawn The Princess and the Frog (G, Blu-ray/DVD/digital three-disc combo pack, $26.99) is a wonder — even the jazzy score will have you jumping for joy. If you’re into stop-motion, catch up with Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox (PG, $17.99), which mixes miniature artistry and sophisticated storytelling.
