Noah Baumbach to rewrite Brett Ratner's Heist movie. Is Ben Stiller to follow?

Posted on

Universal Pictures confirmed to EW.com today that writer/director Noah Baumbach has been attached to do a rewrite the Untitled Heist movie that Brett Ratner has long been slated to direct. That could mean that Ben Stiller may not be far behind. Baumbach recently completed Greenberg, which stars Stiller as an lonely New Yorker transplanted to Los Angeles. While rumors of Stiller coming aboard Heist have been floating for some time, the news that Baumbach will do a rewrite makes the possibility seem more real.

Heist has had many iterations over many years. At one point, the project featured an ensemble cast with Eddie Murphy leading the charge. That version was scraped when Ocean’s Eleven scribe Ted Griffin came aboard to do a rewrite. Heist will center on a group of blue-collar workers employed in a high rise who rob the Penthouse suite of $20 million.
