Jonah Hill may join Brad Pitt on 'Moneyball'

Posted on

While it’s still early for any deals to be signed, it’s looking more and more like comic actor Jonah Hill will be playing expert statistician Paul De Podesta in the baseball drama Moneyball for Sony Pictures. The role was originally slated to go to comedian Demetri Martin, but that was scrapped when Sony abandoned the first iteration of the film, which paired Pitt as Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane with director Steven Soderbergh. The studio restarted the project back in December, returning to the draft of the script from Steve Zaillian (American Gangster) and hiring Capote director Bennett Miller to helm with Pitt still attached.

Hill did a table read on the film over a month ago and has been interested in the project for some time. Sony has made it very clear that no deal is yet complete, but the studio, which has a long relationship with Hill — he’s currently adapting 21 Jump Street for them — likes the young actor.
