Ratings: Nearly 30 million watch 'American Idol' premiere

Posted on

The season premiere of American Idol 9 was down less than 1 percent in total viewership from last year’s debut; Fox crushed the January 12 competition by pulling in nearly 30 million viewers over two hours. Over on CBS, very few viewers defected from NCIS at 8 p.m. (viewership was down only 3 percent from last week’s new episode), while NCIS: Los Angeles lost 14 percent of last week’s viewership in the 9 p.m. time slot. The Jay Leno Show is not seeing better numbers despite the late-night TV kerfuffle that’s been going on in the past week.
