WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY Michael Hoffman

If you thought your family had bickering down to an art, think again. In The Last Station, Helen Mirren takes on the role of the Countess Sofya, devoted wife and muse to Russian author Leo Tolstoy (Christopher Plummer). After her husband makes a series of rash decisions (to live a life of poverty and celibacy, for example), Sofya suspects he is being influenced by his trusted disciple Vladimir Chertkov (Paul Giamatti) and his new gullible assistant Valentin Bulgakov (James McAvoy). The last straw comes when Tolstoy signs a new will, leaving his famous works to the Russian people — and not his family. Sofya then uses every trick she knows and her powers of seduction to seek her revenge.
