The Bitch is back PopWatchers. And I don’t just mean evil Georgina! I’m back recapping Gossip Girl. I was in Glee-land for a bit but now I’m back the land of X’s and O’s.
First of all, let’s discuss how hot Penn Badgley/Dan Humphrey has gotten in like the last few months. Hello, bicep curls. Here’s hoping Dan carries lots of heavy books to class. But while we’re on the subject, I did not believe for a second that Dan and Georgina would ever get together. She’s a crazy person and Dan is too cynical to trust that she had changed. But by the end of the episode it was nice to see the mean girl inside Georgina once again emerge. Gossip Girl does not need any more nice people. There’s no room.
Also, Scott the illegitimate son is no good. He reeks of stinky Aaron from last season. Why have these people not learned?! It’s almost like every single male guest star has to be a dud. Is there some kind of clause in the other male actors’ contracts? I’m still not really clear why he didn’t reveal the truth to Rufus. BTW, why was Rufus at that auction? That was not clear. But back to Scott: I seriously felt zero emotion when he and Vanessa said goodbye. Why the hell was she crying? The dude lied to you! But at least she cried while wearing a great outfit. In fact, it was one of the best outfits she’s worn in a while. In other news, why am I not surprised that Vanessa has a hein patterned bedspread in her dorm room?
I didn’t love the Chuck/Blair storyline because I thought it was slightly ludicrous for these two 18-year olds to be attempting to outbid each other on a $5,000+ photo. But at least it brought the two of them together which is what we all want to see. Love when she stole his shoes. And man is Ed Westwick lookin’ good. I think it’s the slight summer tan. Random that Chuck ended up buying the Empire Hotel at the end of the show. Good location though and it has a helluva roof deck.
It pains me to say this but Joanna Garcia needs to leave this show. The actress, who was so bubby and great on Privileged, is just a big snooze on Gossip Girl. It could be frankly that this storyline with her character, Bree, and Nate , is just really uninteresting. But now she has a weird connection to Carter Baizen? This Baizen dude has quite a sordid past. We also found out that he’s been searching for Serena’s pops for a while now. Can the real Mr. Van Der Woodsen please just stand up? Also, let’s not cast him from the same pool of wooden himbos like Scott and Aaron.
Are Jenny and Eric being phased out of Gossip Girl? That’s kind of what it feels like. For the past three episodes, we’ve seen them for maybe 10 minutes total. The doorman in Lily’s building has almost gotten more screentime.
I liked Serena’s Southeby’s dress along with Blair’s. Not so much Blair’s milk maid-esque up hairdo. But what is happening with the hair this season? Either they’re having humidity issues or we’re supposed to think most of these kids are now hitting the NYU Supercuts. Not good.
All in all, not one of my favorite episodes. Last week’s felt more fresh and punchy. But next week we get Tyra Banks AND Hilary Duff! That’s something to be excited about.
What did you think of last night’s Gossip Girl? Do you hate Scott as much as me? Why would Dan date Georgina? What do you think of everyone’s hair?
