Dan Brown's must list

Posted on

NORMAN ROCKWELL
Huge commercial success, no critical acclaim. People would say ”He’s no Michelangelo!” And finally he stood up and said ”I’m not trying to create high art, I’m trying to tell the best story I can tell.”

DISTRICT 9
When I [want to relax], I do something as far removed as possible from words. I’m not into science fiction but this story about alien life was told in a different way. It was interesting and sad.

THE SOUP
I have been known to watch some pretty trashy TV. I consume my pop culture through a show called The Soup, where I very efficiently can look at how bad it really is, make fun of it, and go to bed.

OF MICE AND MEN
This was my favorite book to teach students. Very simple story with superb description and great emotional content. My least favorite was The Sound and the Fury. It makes young people feel like reading is over their heads.

AEROSMITH
One day Steven Tyler calls me and says, ”I want to download The Da Vinci Code. What’s the difference between abridged and unabridged?” I thought, ”How great is this? You’ve got Dan Brown on your iPod and I’ve got Aerosmith on mine!”
