We gave it a C

From the moment Hugh Jackman walked off with the first X-Men movie in 2000, it was only a matter of time before the mutton-chopped, metal-taloned mutant got his own showcase. Well, here’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine — in a two-disc edition, no less — and it’s totally underwhelming. Jackman isn’t the problem. He’s fine (as is Liev Schreiber as his sadistic sibling). The snag is the script, which trots out every superhero cliché you?ve seen a zillion times before (Wolverine’s backstory is fleshed out, his gal is murdered, a military heavy crosses him, payback is sought). Director Gavin Hood seizes every opportunity to trowel on slick CGI before the freak brothers square off in the finale. The EXTRAS are a ho-hum batch of commentaries and featurettes, the best of which is a lively interview with Marvel maestro Stan Lee. C
