Men at Work: '80's pop band loses first phase of copyright lawsuit

Posted on

The AP reports that an Australian judge has ruled in favor of the music publisher Larrikin Music, contending that the Aussie rock band stole part of the melody for its smash hit,  “Down Under,” from the popular 1934 campfire song, “Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree.”  If ultimately convicted of copyright infringement, the band stands to lose nearly three decades of royalties from its Grammy-winning 1983 song.
