'Smurfs' 3D movie: Should Zachary Levi be Gargamel?

Posted on

Smurfs-movie_l The much-anticipated and as-yet-untitled Smurfs movie will hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2010 in 3D, EW has confirmed. Details on the plot and casting of the live-action/animated film are still under wraps, but I think we all know Columbia and Sony Pictures Animation’s top priority: casting Gargamel. Assuming this will be one of the live-action roles, we need a dark-haired male. My first thought: Were this the ’80s, I would absolutely lead a campaign for Laverne & Shirley‘s Squiggy (David L. Lander). Second thought: How great would it be to hear Neil Diamond say “Azrael”? (Imagine it.) Third thought: Ask Michael Ausiello, EW’s resident Smurfs expert, for his pick. Turns out, he recently asked Chuck‘s Zachary Levi about the (faux) rumor that he’s tested for the role. Watch the clip below for his response…

Who would you like to see terrorize the Smurfs? Alan Rickman!.
