Jason Moore, director of Shrek: The Musical, has signed to helm MGM’s musical version of the 1983 cult comedy Valley Girl, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The original film starred Nicolas Cage as a Hollywood punk rocker who wins the heart of the suburban title character, played by Deborah Foreman, and featured music by new Men at Work, Modern English, and the Psychedelic Furs. Moore has directed episodes of One Tree Hill, Everwood, and Brothers & Sisters. He also directed Broadway’s Shrek: The Musical, which is up for eight Tony Awards, as well as Broadway productions of Steel Magnolias and Avenue Q. The Valley Girl movie will be his feature debut.
