Oh, come on: you didn’t expect Simon Cowell to go on Craig Ferguson last night without the Scottish host giving the British meanie a hard time, did you? When Cowell boasted that he knew Ferguson’s fellow Scot, singer Susan Boyle, would be “fantastic,” Ferguson called him out: “You lying sack of crap!” Cowell laughed, clearly enjoying being on the receiving-end of criticism for a change.
Ferguson brought up new judge Kara DioGuardi with typical bluntness: “What the hell were you thinkin’?” (Cowell said it was like “having Paula-times-five now,” that he and Randy “don’t know what the hell they’re talking about” half the time.) Ferguson asked about rumors that Cowell would leave Idol when his contract is up and Cowell said sarcastically that they could “put Ryan in my judging chair” and the show would be “fascinating.” Cowell and Ferguson also called host Seacrest a “sausage dog,” had a good chuckle, and then Cowell clarified that he meant Seacrest was like “the little dog always trying to get the attention of the bigger dog… always on your leg doing all that stuff… that’s our relationship.” Yeah, that was less insulting.
This was Cowell’s first visit to the Late Late Show, and he seemed unprepared for Ferguson’s usual refusal to suck up to guests. The host made fun of the way, on American Idol, Cowell sits in his t-shirt, arms folded, “to make your biceps look bigger,” and Ferguson referred to Britain’s Got Talent as though he couldn’t remember the name, calling it So You Think You’ve Got A Pop Star On Your Hands.
All in all, the humbling of Simon Cowell at the hands of Ferguson was enjoyed by all, including Cowell.
Did you watch? What do you think of Ferguson’s fun with Cowell?
