We gave it a B+
The Story: Benoît ”Bruno” Courrèges — police chief of St. Denis — spends his days helping local farmers outfox the despised E.U. food inspectors, distilling his own vin de noix, and trying to forget the past — until the murder of the town’s French-Algerian patriarch dredges up old hatreds in Bruno, Chief of Police.
Movie Pitch: Music Box meets A Year in Provence.
Lowdown: Martin Walker’s book is a nice literary pairing with the slow-food movement. But lovely as it is to linger at the table, the sleuthing can drag. B+
