Howard K. Stern faces charges for supplying Anna Nicole Smith with drugs

Posted on

Authorities have formally filed criminal charges against Anna Nicole Smith’s former attorney and boyfriend, Howard K. Stern, 40, for conspiring to supply drugs to Smith prior to her death, prosecutors said Thursday.

According to records, police in Whittier, Calif., arrested and booked Stern, who was a confidante of Smith’s for years and claimed to be the father of her daughter Dannielynn. Bail is set at $20,000. Additionally, two doctors—Sandeep Kapoor, 40, and Khristine Eroshevich, 61—were also charged with felonies. The pair allegedly prescribed medication unlawfully to Smith, according to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office. Kapoor was also arrested in Whittier; a warrant has been issued for Eroshevich’s arrest.

The charges allege the trio—Stern and the two doctors—conspired to provide drugs to Smith between June 2004 and January 2007. They also were charged with “prescribing, administering or dispensing a controlled substance to an addict,” among other charges.

At the age of 39, Smith died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in February 2007. Her son, 20-year-old Daniel, died of a lethal combination of drugs just moths before.
