No Doubt: Pay for the concert, get the music for free

Nodoubtstefani2009_l_2Your reunited band is getting ready to hit the road, but the road is now in the middle of a nasty recession. What do you do? Give the farm away! No Doubt has made an offer that it hopes its wallet-watching fans can’t refuse: People who purchase “top price level” tickets (greater than $42.50, and on sale today) to most dates on the group’s 2009 North American summer tour will receive a free digital download of the band’s 80-plus-song catalog, as well as a newly recorded cover of Adam and the Ants’ “Stand and Deliver.” Sure, artists have value-added their tickets with complimentary tunes before, yet No Doubt’s bundling of its entire back catalog with a concert ticket seems like a pretty good deal — not to mention one that generates a little publicity to boot. (Something to ponder: How many of these higher-priced seats will be purchased by hard-core fans who already own all of the band’s music, save for the new track?)

What say you, PopWatchers? Does this incentive make you more inclined to go see Gwen & Co. this summer? What types of promotions would motivate you to buy a concert ticket in general?
