'Mad Max' to return as 3-D anime feature film, sans Mel Gibson

Posted on

George Miller, the writer-director of the three Mad Max films, has resurrected the idea of a fourth Max, which was set to shoot in 2003 until financing collapsed in the wake of the first Iraq War. MTV Movies Blog reports that for the 3-D anime release, Miller isn’t looking simply to mimic Japanese-style animation but rather to adapt it for Western audiences. “Anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea change,” said Miller. “It’s coming in games and I believe it’s the same in anime.” Miller will not be using Mel Gibson, the original Max, in either the film or its accompanying adventure videogame. “We’ll probably go a different route,” he told MTV News.
