Editor’s letter — From the red carpet to backstage, we made the 2009 Oscars even better

Posted on

During the Academy Awards on Feb. 22, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY made sure you didn’t miss a thing. Throughout the arrivals and the ceremony, EW.com provided a hilarious live blog, then posted dozens of exclusive photos from the big night. Inside the Kodak Theatre, our reporters sent out updates via Twitter. Meanwhile, as cohost of ABC’s Oscar preshow (along with Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn and Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts), I interviewed the stars as they hit the red carpet. Meryl Streep seemed even more proud of her date, daughter Louisa, than her nomination. And Sarah Jessica Parker graciously let me interview her twice (because I screwed up the first time). In this issue, we take you even further behind the scenes of the show, and the stars of Best Picture winner Slumdog Millionaire tell you all about seeing their dreams come true on Oscar night. With a revamped ceremony and ratings on the rebound, the Oscars were a winner this year, and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY couldn’t be more excited to bring them to you.
