Watch out Miley! Selena Gomez is making a serious play for your spot as “It” girl. On the heels of releasing her debut album later this year, Gomez will star opposite relative newcomer Joey King in Beezus and Ramona, Twentieth Century Fox’s first adaptation from Beverly Cleary’s popular kid book series Ramona, which have sold more than 91 million copies since first being published back in 1955. Gomez will play Beezus, the smart but insecure older sister to the precocious Ramona (King). Elizabeth Allen (Aquamarine) will direct from a screenplay by Laurie Craig and Nick Pustay. King (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) was chosen following a nationwide casting search for the part. She beat out hundreds of girls after completing her screen test. Beezus and Ramona will open on March 19, 2010.
