Daytime Emmys: Washing their hands with soaps?

Posted on

Daytimeemmy_lIt’s not a huge surprise that selling the Daytime Emmys is an uphill battle, especially after the abysmal ratings for this year’s broadcast on ABC. Still, it’s sad to hear that the pageant honoring the kings and queens of soaps and talk shows, which historically has alternated between ABC and CBS, might head off to cable land and focus less on those two networks’ daytime dramas and soap stars. The actors on soaps work at breakneck speeds and should have the same right to their big fete as their night-time counterparts. Then again, perhaps if the ceremony moves from major-network prime-time to a cable network daytime broadcast, it could help the event escape prime-time expectations. (They might also be able to keep that two-hour running time that way.) And really, where would we be without winning moments like Jeanne Cooper or Susan Lucci (pictured) FINALLY winning their well-deserved Emmys?

What of this, my soap-watching PopWatchers? Anyone feel slighted by ABC and CBS passing on the Daytime Awards? Is this the final nail in the coffin for soap operas, or is there a silver lining to this potential move?
