David Byrne and Brian Eno’s last collaboration, 1981’s My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, was a frantic mix of African rhythms and Pentecostal sermons. So it’s a surprise that despite the occasional ear-scraping synth, their reunion album Everything That Happens Will Happen Today is filled with straightforward folktronica anthems. Best of all is the bewitching ”Strange Overtones,” which features bubbly guitar and a disco momentum. ”These beats are 20 years old,” sings Byrne, but it might be the best music he’s made in that long.
