Who says the apex of music-video craft was reached in the ’80s? (At least back when MTV had said videos in heavy rotation.) Meet Kerli, an Estonian pop princess with an apparent penchant for Tim Burton and the Brothers Grimm. Her sexy-demented Goth aesthetic is oddly beguiling, and there’s something about the video for her single “Walking on Air” (watch it below) that’s undeniably engaging. Bonus points for the Björk-like notes “mini Kerli” belts out when she comes to life. Maybe it’s just me, but I immediately thought of the fantasy-scape in Heart’s “These Dreams” video — a serious point of obsession for me in junior high. I wonder if Kerli’s gravity-defying tutu will age as poorly as Ann and Nancy’s Wilson’s vamp-y power suits?
