We gave it a B

If you really love fruit, you’ll delight in Adam Leith Gollner’s globe-trotting adventures seeking exotic produce. If you merely like fruit, you’ll wish The Fruit Hunters were a little less haphazardly organized. Gollner profiles a few notable folks in fruitdom, like ”fruit detective” David Karp, who scours the world for rare specimens. But the real stars here are the strange fruits themselves — like Malaysia’s stinky but sweet durian. ”Eating them is said to be like eating your favorite ice cream while sitting on the toilet,” Gollner writes. ”The ones we ate…tasted like undercooked peanut butter-mint omelets in body-odor sauce.” B
