After debuting in the 1930s, Nancy and her pal Sluggo cavorted in newspaper comic strips for years. In 1963, artist Joe Brainard began reimagining the wholesome funny-pages figure. Over 15 years, he created over 100 Nancy-inspired works, from the silly (”If Nancy Had an Afro”) to the arty (”Picasso Nancy”) to the risqué (”If Nancy Made Blue Movies”). The Nancy Book (Siglio, $39.50) provides a fitting tribute to the artist, who died in 1994.
