”The Girl With the Crooked Nose” — EW staffer Ted Botha on researching his new book

Posted on

Since 1993, hundreds of women have been killed in Ju├írez, Mexico. In The Girl With the Crooked Nose, Ted Botha (a copy editor at EW) follows the cases by focusing on Frank Bender, a self-taught ”forensic sculptor” who reconstructs the faces of unidentified murder victims with clay, plaster, and paint. Admits Botha, 50, ”The research was pretty grisly.”
