The Must List: February 29, 2008
1. ‘TOOTSIE’ 25TH-ANNIVERSARY DVD
Dorothy Michaels certainly is a timeless beauty. Can you believe it’s been a quarter-century since Dustin Hoffman stepped into a girdle to liberate himself from unemployment?
2. The Raveonettes’ ‘LUST LUST LUST’
Ignore the fact that the Danish duo’s single is called ”Dead Sound”: Their album — electronic pop with throwbacks to the ’60s — is anything but.
3. Y: THE LAST MAN #60
Brian K. Vaughan’s saga about the last man on earth (and his monkey) trying to survive in an all-female world reaches a thrilling conclusion in the final chapter of this acclaimed comic series.
4. ‘SPONGEBOB’ VOICE ACTORS
The cast of SpongeBob SquarePants dubs classic clips from Casablanca to The Godfather. Play it again, SpongeBob! (collegehumor.com/video:1801688)
5. THE RETURN OF ‘SNL’
Tina Fey hosts the first post-strike Saturday Night Live on Feb. 23. Now we don’t actually have to go out and pretend to have a life. Oh, wait.
6. ELIZABETH BANKS in ‘Definitely, Maybe’
The cheeky bombshell is a ”definitely” in a ”maybe” film.
Call it human nature: The anniversary edition of Michael Jackson’s 25-year-old masterpiece gives us chills all over again.
8. PIERROT LE FOU
The long-awaited DVD confirms Jean-Luc Godard’s film is a New Wave gem: a twisted French romance with a tragic ending that’s mind-blowing. Literally.
9. ‘MAKING THE BAND 4’ SEASON 2
The handpicked quintet (and solo winner Donnie) mix it up with the Danity Kane lovelies, in a race to see which group finishes recording their CD first. Maybe Diddy should have named these guys ”Distracted.”
10. MELINDA DOOLITTLE
She won’t change a hair for us, but she will update ”My Funny Valentine” with an R&B groove. (Available on iTunes.)
