I got sucked into a few hours’ worth of TNT’s epic Law & Order marathon on New Year’s eve/New Year’s day –resistance is futile! — and this directly resulted in four things:
1) I spent a good 15 minutes hopelessly trying to imitate Elisabeth Rohm’s (still maddening, still hilariously wooden) line-readings.
2) I realized that whether or not there’s a direct correlation, the show just hasn’t been the same in its post-Jerry Orbach seasons.
3) I tuned in to last night’s Law & Order: SVU (directed by Helen Shaver!), only to realize the show’s writers continue to churn out far-fetched episodes consisting of disconnected scenes which involve little or no interesting detective/courtroom work. Sigh.
4) I set my DVR to record tonight’s season premiere of Law & Order: Regular (tonight, at 9 pm EDT, on NBC), where craggy-voiced Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) takes over as District Attorney, and two new cast members (Linus Roache, pictured, and Jeremy Sisto) will join S. Epatha Merkerson, Jesse L. Martin, and Alana De La Garza on crime-solving detail.
Given all the dross currently on the network’s rotation, I know I’m not the only one who’ll be tuning in to L&O tonight. Are you stoked about the new season and casting changes? Or is the old warhorse ready to retire to the back pasture? Discuss!
