Rosie Perez, The Ritz
Joan Marcus

An Italian sanitation engineer, on the lam from his homicidal in-laws, hides out in a gay bathhouse, where he dodges bullets, chubby chasers, and a talentless Puerto Rican diva (Rosie Perez). Terrence McNally’s 1975 farce The Ritz has something to offend everyone, but it all goes right in this fast-paced revival. As the hero, Kevin Chamberlin careens amusingly from one mortifying situation to another; he’s topped only by Perez, whose 10-minute nightclub act, featuring an up-tempo version of Fiddler on the Roof‘s ”Sabbath Prayer” — go-go boys and all — is a sidesplitting highlight.
