Name that tune: Your favorite musical moments from scripted TV

Posted on

Confession: I’m still singing “Day Man,” the original tune that Charlie and glam-rock fanatic Dennis (Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton, respectively) performed on the Oct. 11 episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I can’t decide whether I prefer the scene of them singing it live at Paddy’s in wigs and codpieces, or the one of them writing the ditty in Charlie’s apartment (below).

This isn’t the only musical-themed obsession I’m currently experiencing courtesy of a TV show…

Over the weekend, while watching some Psych repeats saved on my DVR, I became obsessed withShawn and Gus’ rendition of a-ha’s “Take on Me,” performed in the JulySeason 2 opener in which they went undercover to protect a SimonCowell-like judge (Tim Curry) on an American Idol-style talent show for duos. Watch the clip below.

So what are your favorite musical moments from scripted TV? Feel free to go old school, like Suzanne crashing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” on Designing Women, or The Cosby Show lip-synch to Ray Charles’ “(Night Time is) The Right Time.” (I can’t find those on YouTube… and it hurts me.)
