We gave it a B

Liza Campbell’s dad was the 25th Thane of Cawdor, and his castle (built while ”the Spanish inquisition was in full swing”) was immortalized in Macbeth. Yet despite descriptions of the family shooting lodge, Campbell’s memoir, A Charmed Life, is not strictly one of privilege, but the poignant story of a father apparently driven to paranoia and cocaine abuse by the gloomy Scottish moors. By the time of his early death from cancer, Hugh Campbell had drastically revised his will, even depriving his eldest son from inheriting Cawdor. In his daughter’s lovely, though occasionally distant prose, the ongoing tragedy of Macbeth resonates. B
