The Bloodstone Papers

Posted on

This tale of two generations of Anglo-Indians focuses on both Owen Monroe, a fortysomething derelict stewing in the aftermath of a lost love in present-day London, and his father, Ross, a gifted boxer who comes of age in India during the 1950s just as the British were pulling out. As Owen fumbles with the meaning of his life while trying to document Ross’, author Glen Duncan smartly tackles a swath of race issues, relationships, and sport amidst political turmoil. For all its ambitious scope, however, The Bloodstone Papers resonates most in its small, sad pangs: as a depiction of two promising lives that failed to turn out as expected. B
