We gave it an A-

The oft-caricatured Latter-day Saint movement gets the PBS treatment in The Mormons, an admirably impartial documentary. Early segments are devoted to prophet — or charlatan — Joseph Smith, his 19th-century revelations, the bloody Utah beginnings, and, of course, polygamy. Yet the second half, devoted to present-day Mormons (like presidential hopeful Mitt Romney), is the more trenchant. We hear from passionate believers and dissenters, including an excommunicated feminist scholar and a saved ex-junkie who initially confused LDS with LSD: ”I thought, ‘Now that’s the church for me!”’ EXTRAS None.
