Jerry Springer’s second chance
Jerry Springer gets to hawk The Springer Hustle (a behind-the-scenes look at his talk show) if he atones for a previous pop culture sin.
The Springer Hustle
”The Jerry Springer Show has become part of pop culture, and people always have questions about how it’s put together. This is one perspective,” says Springer of Hustle (Sundays, 11 p.m. on VH1). ”The producers…aren’t allowed to do nice stories — there’s always pressure to find the most outrageous ones. I’m not allowed to know what the shows are about. When I go out, all I’m given is the names of the guests, and what chair they’re in. Why anyone would want to see sausage being made, I don’t know. If there’s bad weather and you stay home to watch this, you won’t get stuck in a storm. Another reason to watch is you’re going to feel pretty good about your own life.”
SORRY About That
The Jerry Springer Show
”I want to apologize for the last 16 years of my show. I’ve destroyed Western civilization, but in fairness, it had a thousand-year run. I think it’s time to give the people on the other side of the planet a shot. But the one thing people should consider is that I’ve saved the American taxpayer a lot of money, particularly in our defense budget. Our show is shown throughout the world, so when other countries see our show, they no longer want to take us over. So I’ve kept America safe. But to those who kind of enjoyed Western civilization when it was really doing well, I profoundly apologize. If it hadn’t been for me, we could still be enjoying The Brady Bunch.”
