We gave it a B-
Ten albums into their career, 8Ball and MJG are still turning out the syrupy, intricately funky sound they pioneered on their 1993 debut. That’s a good and a bad thing. From the serpentine synths of ”Turn Up the Bump” to the foghorn bass stomp of ”Relax & Take Notes,” the music on Ridin High is reliably rewind-worthy. Still, after all this time, you’d think 8Ball and MJG would be bored with ”ridin’,” ”pimpin’,” and plenty of raunchy nocturnal activities (all delivered in a workman-like flow). We sure are.
