In Nora Roberts’ latest outing as J.D. Robb, Innocent in Death, a teacher at a fancy New York private school drinks a cup of cocoa and keels over dead. Who poisoned Mr. Foster? Nearly everyone has means and motive in Roberts’ rote whodunit, the 24th in her futuristic series featuring detective Eve Dallas. Is it a sleazy colleague? A driven student? The principal? (Most readers will guess the culprit by page 20.) Meanwhile, Eve parries danger at home: Her husband, Roarke — ”a man of insane wealth, power, and position” — has reconnected with an old flame. Frets Eve: ”She has bigger tits.” Her anxiety is understandable, but both melodrama and mystery are so flimsy it’s hard to care. C
