Don’t let the title mislead you: Disco is one of the few styles that don’t turn up on k-os’ third album. Instead, he experiments with lush psychedelic soul (”The Rain”), perky new wave (”Born to Run”), scrappy rockabilly (”Equalizer”), dreamy indie-pop (”Valhalla”), and guttural beatbox rhythms (”AquaCityBoy”). His lyrics aren’t always as memorable as those backdrops, but Atlantis: Hymns for Disco is an exhilarating listen nonetheless — and perfect for Gnarls Barkley fans in search of a new genre-mashing fix.
